COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) - South Carolina lawmakers are working on passing a bipartisan bill that aligns with President Donald Trump’s call to reintroduce prayer and religious expression in public schools.

Trump announced new federal guidance aimed at protecting student prayer rights. He said the effort is part of a broader mission to safeguard religious liberty in schools.

"We have to bring back religion in America, bring it back stronger than ever before," Trump said.

Earlier this year in South Carolina, the House unanimously passed legislation that would require public schools and charter schools to treat student's religious expression the same as secular viewpoints.
