NORTH PORT, Fla. ( WWSB ) - The City of North Port is joining Bradenton and Sarasota, adding speed cameras in school zones.
The City Commission began hearing presentations about the system Tuesday. No official start date for the cameras has been set.

One student at North Port High School says the cameras will make her feel safer.
“Tthere’s pedestrians that are, like, walking and some of the cars don’t follow the speed limit ... or they don’t let the kids walk across the street,” Rickaiya Hill said.
North Port Police say the camera are there, first and foremost, for safety.
