SEVIER COUNTY, Tenn. — Safety upgrades are expected to happen in one East Tennessee City in the coming months.

for the past two years Pigeon Forge has not had a designated landing zone for lifestar helicopters from the University of Tennessee Medical Center but here in the next few months this area right here behind me could become that new spot.

Pigeon Forge City Manager David Wear said the safety of visitors and residents is why leaders are looking to bring back a landing zone for medical helicopters. The city previously had a landing zone at City Hall, but construction in the area caused it to close.

Wear said city commissioners have supported plans for a new spot on unused city property near the Pigeon Forge Community Center. The project is estimated to cost around $120,000.
