The Houston Astros were forced to make an early call to the bullpen in Tuesday’s series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Starter Luis Garcia left the game in the second inning with an apparent elbow injury in what was just his second start back after a long rehab from Tommy John surgery.

Garcia motioned to the Houston dugout after missing high with an 88 m.p.h. 2-0 changeup to Blue Jays shortstop Ernie Clement. The Astros’ trainer came out to the mound and had a short conversation with Garcia before the right-hander left the game.

The 28-year-old has made it through 1.2 innings of work on 27 pitches, allowing only Addison Barger to reach base on a hit-by-pitch.

There was no immediate update on his status, and Houston called on right-hander AJ Blubaugh to take over.
