SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) —September is Hunger Action Month, which has one organization raising awareness about food insecurity in the state.

There was a sea of orange at Feeding South Dakota.

"We're wearing orange because it's Hunger Action Day. We want to spread awareness for hunger in South Dakota," Eastern Volunteer Coordinator, Alyssa Albrecht said.

With the budget cuts that happened earlier this year, the nonprofit is feeling the need now more than ever.

"With those recent cuts and loads that we would typically receive from the USDA, we've really been working hard to fundraise in order to replace those foods that we're now missing, kind of that gap area," community engagement manager Jennifer Stensaas said.
