LAKE CHARLES, La. (KPLC) - Direct Service Professionals (DSPs) help people with disabilities work and contribute to the community. This week, Southwest Louisiana DSPs are being recognized for their service.

“It’s so nice of them to recognize us because every now and then, you like to feel special regardless of what your job is,” direct service professional Jeanette Breaux said.

In Louisiana, there are currently over a hundred thousand people who live with intellectual or developmental disabilities, according to the Louisiana Developmental Disabilities Council.

Breaux says the CARC Treasure Chest gives people with disabilities a chance to earn paychecks and have independent work.
