CADILLAC —The future of Consumers Energy’s hydroelectric dams across the state is no longer in question after Consumers made a big announcement Tuesday.
Consumer Energy said the agreement will keep those dams in operation, and preserve reservoirs, benefitting the local communities.
Consumers Energy intends to sell its 13 hydroelectric dams including ones in Northern Michigan, the Hodenpyle Dam and the Tippy Dam, along the Manistee River and several others along the AuSable River.
The move comes after Consumers Energy held several town halls in Michigan from 2022 to 2024 to gather input from the public.
Consumers Energy Vice President of External Affairs, Angela Thompkins, said feedback from the town halls played a major factor in their decision.
