PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) -- OSF HealthCare announced on Tuesday that it was awarded $2.5 million to help an initiative managing high blood pressure.

The money is from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, which is partnering with 42 health systems across the country to implement an initiative to strengthen patient-centered strategies, OSF HealthCare Spokesperson Shelli Dankoff said.

High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, impacts almost half of all adults in the U.S. and is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular disease and premature death, Dankoff said.
