WINDHAM, Maine — A Windham man died Tuesday when fuel vapors ignited while he was refueling his boat on Little Sebago Lake, according to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.

Police received a call around 4:15 p.m. reporting a man floating face down in the water near Outlet Cove Road in Windham, a release stated.

The man was identified as 78-year-old Allan Ryder of Windham, according to the department. Investigators said Ryder was refueling his boat, which was tied to a dock, when vapors ignited and he either jumped or fell into the water.

Windham Fire and Rescue provided medical care at the scene, but Ryder was pronounced dead, the department said.
