DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - A new contract that was offered to union workers at UMD last Friday by the University was voted down by 82 percent of members.

Now, Teamsters Local 320 has taken the next step in protesting that offer. Many of the union workers walked off the job this morning in protest of the latest contract offer they were given, and now students are saying they are being negatively affected by the strike.

Union members claim the 3 percent wage increase within the University’s Last, Best and Final Offer , did not meet wage increases offered to other employee groups, and so their imminent strike was carried out today.

In turn, students started out their day today expressing frustration over one of the side effects of the strike that started Tuesday morning.
