CLEVELAND, Ohio --The Cleveland Museum of Art will transform its south plaza and Wade Lagoon walkways into a vibrant canvas for the annual Chalk Festival , scheduled for noon to 5 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 20 and 21.

The family-friendly event, which continues rain or shine, draws inspiration from a 16th-century Italian Renaissance tradition where aspiring artists created chalk reproductions of the Madonna by Raphael and his contemporaries outside cathedrals.

This year’s festival introduces new accessibility features. These include “Chalk Village,” a wheelchair-accessible, three-dimensional drawing space. Additionally, Akron Children’s Hospital’s Expressive Therapy team will offer mindful drawing exercises.
