TOLEDO, Ohio — All but one member of Toledo City Council rejected member Adam Martinez's effort at Tuesday's meeting to fix a 25-year-old zoning ordinance he sees as an antiquated loophole to avoid transparency measures like gathering public input when rezoning city properties.
At the meeting, Martinez tried to move the item, which would repeal an ordinance passed in 2000 to allow a propety at Byrne and Angola roads in south Toledo be rezoned contingent on an industrial plat being recorded, to the zoning and planning committee for further review. But, council President Carrie Hartman immediately moved to bring it back out, the majority of council sided with her and then all 12 members of council aside from Martinez voted to kill the repeal effort.
