CEDAR KEY, Fla. (WCJB) - The digging continues in Cedar Key. Archaeologists have found more bones where some were discovered back in June.
Archaeologists have been sifting through dirt at a historic Cedar Key home, and they say they’ve already found three different sets of human remains.
“It’s been a lot of hard work. We’ve been digging the dirt, putting in the sifters,” shared Cedar Key Mayor Jeff Webb.
This isn’t the first time bones have been found on this property. In June, the property manager found pieces of a human skull.
The initial remains were uncovered when excavation crews began to repair a pool after Hurricane Helene damaged the sea wall holding it up. Now, archeologists are back going through all of this disturbed soil.
