GARY — Authorities are investigating the death of a 47-year-old Gary woman who suffered a gunshot wound during the day last Wednesday.

In a news release Tuesday night, the Lake County Coroner’s Office said it responded to the 2300 block of 20th Place on Wednesday morning, where family members identified the deceased as Nicole Mabon-Brewer. She was pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m. by investigators.

An autopsy was conducted Thursday at the Lake County Forensic Center in Crown Point. The manner of death is still pending, according to officials.

The Gary Police Department, Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force and Lake County Sheriff’s Department CSI are involved in the ongoing investigation. Officials did not respond to a request for more details about the fatal shooting
