COTTLEVILLE — Francis Howell Central senior infielder Alex Meyer had a few words of encouragement for pitcher Kendal Morelock on Tuesday afternoon.
Morelock had just surrendered a go-ahead homer in the top of the eighth inning during an early-season showdown with GAC South rival Liberty.
"I told her, 'Don't worry, we've got this for you,' " Meyer said.

Meyer slapped a tying single in the bottom of the frame and Morelock followed with the game-winning hit to give the Spartans a 5-4 victory in a wild contest in southern Cottleville.
Howell Central (12-1 overall, 2-0 conference) recorded its program record 11th successive triumph. Its last loss was an 8-2 setback to St. Dominic on August 29.
