NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Girl Scouts is working to change the way young girls view their bodies through a new badge program. Each badge is designed to help girls see what their body can do versus how they look.
“With these new badges, we’re really adapting to the times to make sure we are giving the best curriculum to what these girls need to be able to succeed in the modern world,” said Rachel Smith, the Communications Manager for the Girl Scouts.
New research from the Girl Scouts has shown that girls ages five to seven years old received more comments on their appearance than compliments on their abilities, with negative self-talk beginning as early as five years old.
It’s a program that Bessie Stitzlein says she wished she had when she first joined the Girl Scouts nine years ago
