SHELDON, Iowa (KTIV) - During a special election on Sept. 9, the Sheldon Community School District asked voters to approve and continue the current Physical Plant and Equipment Levy, or “PPEL.”
Sheldon last passed the existing PPEL 10 years ago for an amount not exceeding $1.34 per $100,000 of assessed property value. That PPEL expires on June 30, 2026.
The district was asking voters to continue the current levy, and the unofficial results show they voted in favor 303 to 109. It required a simple majority to pass.
Cory Myer, superintendent for the district, says this PPEL creates about $840,000 each year, which can pay for facility improvements, technology, security, and bus improvements.
