KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Peyton and Eli Manning's alternate Monday Night Football telecast kicked off its fifth season this week with a matchup between the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. Peyton revealed during the game that he was unable to secure a guest appearance from perhaps the world's most famous Chicagoan.
During the third quarter, Peyton revealed that he handwrote letters to Chicago native Pope Leo XIV and his executive assistant to invite him to join Monday's telecast and watch the hometown team of His Holiness.
"Kind of like I failed to recruit Randy Moss to Tennessee, I couldn't close the Pope," Peyton said Monday.
