PITTSFIELD, Mass. (NEWS10) -- The Pittsfield City Council revisited the proposed camping ordinance Tuesday night. The measure was introduced in May, and the city council decided to refer the ordinance to the Pittsfield Board of Health.
Council members also said they expect a written opinion on the camping ordinance from the Massachusetts Attorney General in November.
The proposal would make it illegal for any person to camp or set up shelter on public property like streets or sidewalks. Since it was introduced, the ordinance has been rewritten, and the vote has been delayed due to controversies.
Those in support said it will benefit the city. Others pushed back saying it is an inhumane way to deal with homelessness.
