MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- MOD GEN, the modern general store in Milwaukee's Third Ward, is closing after 25 years of business.

In a post shared on social media Monday, CEO Doug McDonald said the store's last day open to the public will be Dec. 24.

"After twenty-five years it is time for us to retire and start a new chapter of life," McDonald wrote, adding, "This journey has been filled with many successes and more than our fair share of challenges, and we are so grateful for the patronage and support of the greater Milwaukee community that made it possible."

MOD GEN says customers are invited to stop in for holiday sales and inventory liquidations as business winds down over the next few months.
