A 76-year-old man was pushed to the ground and beaten to death while waiting at a bus stop in Chicago Monday night, authorities said.

Around 9:15 p.m. Monday, police responded to a call for service in Chicago's Longwood Manor neighborhood on the 9500 block of South Halsted and found the man on the ground with trauma to his head, authorities said. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation revealed the man was pushed to the ground and battered while waiting at a bus stop by an unidentified man who fled the scene, police said.

Surveillance video obtained by NBC Chicago from a nearby business showed part of the confrontation.
