LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — It's a result that upset some folks from Sugarloaf Township and nearby areas at Tuesday's Luzerne County Council meeting.
Dan Eustice of Mountain Top says, "PPL coming in here and saying we're going to do whatever we want anyway. It's not right, and we have to stand up to it, and we have to correct it, and you are a part of that process, and tonight you sold us out."
Many in the audience felt the same way after the county council voted 9-1 to not temporarily pause a program called LERTA, or Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance. LERTA gives tax breaks for business developments.
Folks wanted the council to vote in favor of pausing the program because they were hoping it would stop PPL Electric from building a massive 12-mile-long powerline that's expected
