BOWIE, Md. — Six Flags America in Bowie is closing its doors at the end of this season. The company announced in May that it would shut down the park on Nov. 2 and put the 500-acre property up for sale.

Prince George’s County leaders say the site has already drawn interest from multiple developers, though actual plans could take years to materialize.

Councilmember Wala Blegay, whose district includes the park, said she and colleagues have spoken with developers about possible uses.

“What we don’t want is for someone to walk into a situation where they’re not supported by the council or the county executive,” Blegay said.

To understand what Bowie could face, two other closed Six Flags properties show how long and complicated redevelopment can be.
