MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile officials and community members gathered at Baker High School on Tuesday night to address one of the county’s most urgent crises: fentanyl.

The drug, infamous for its deadly impact, has continued to spread across Mobile County.

“Fentanyl exploded on the scene just a few short years ago, and we have seen it inundate our community,” Mobile County District Attorney Keith Blackwood said.

Blackwood said that his office is currently handling about 75 fentanyl trafficking cases.

In a recent case, Blackwood says investigators seized four kilos of the drug.

"That's four bricks of fentanyl. And that's enough to kill 2.5 million people," he said.

“That’s how dangerous this is,” Blackwood continued. “It could kill our entire community five times over.”
