The mother of an autistic child has expressed her frustration after claiming her son's blue badge renewal was denied because she cannot get a form signed. ‌

Joanne McCarthy says her 13-year-old son has had a blue bade for the past four years but a recent renewal was rejected because a 'risk in traffic' form was not signed by a healthcare, social work or teaching professional who has seen the applicant in the past 12 months. ‌

A risk in traffic form is a document to state that the applicant is constantly a significant risk to themselves or others near vehicles, in traffic or car parks. ‌

The situation has been complicated by with her son being allocated a new social worker through East Ayrshire Council less than 12 months ago, after the initial social worker had to leave.
