Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) has updated its travel advice for Qatar following Israeli strikes on Doha.
Israel attacked Doha on Wednesday in what it said was a strike targeted at top Hamas leaders, including Khalil al-Hayya, its exiled Gaza chief and top negotiator.
Witnesses reported hearing multiple blasts rip through the popular tourist district of Doha, known as Katara.
In response, the government’s smartraveller.gov.au service provided an update for Australians visiting or thinking to visit Qatar.
“On 9 September 2025, several explosions were reported in Doha,” the updated travel advisory said.
“Stay alert, take official warnings seriously, monitor local media and follow the advice of local authorities.
