CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A south Charlotte pizza restaurant is mourning the loss of a Charlotte woman whose death has garnered national attention.
Iryna Zarutska, a 23-year-old originally from Ukraine, was killed in a stabbing on Aug. 22 on the LYNX Blue Line in South End. Decarlos Brown is charged with first-degree murder in her death and received a federal indictment on Tuesday.
Zepeddies Pizzeria, where Zarutska worked, shared a statement about the loss of their employee.
"We lost not only an incredible employee, but a true friend," the statement said. "Our dear Iryna left this world far too soon, and our hearts are heavy with grief."
The pizzeria added that a candle has been left burning in her memory at the restaurant since her death.
