CHARLOTTE, N.C. — One day after Mayor Vi Lyles announced more police officers and security guards would be added to the Blue Line and other key parts of Charlotte’s transit system, riders shared mixed reactions about the changes.
The mayor revealed her plan Monday in a post on X, following the fatal stabbing of Iryna Zarutska on the Blue Line last month. Police charged Decarlos Brown Jr. with first-degree murder in connection with her death.
At nearly every stop on Tuesday, security teams checked tickets and validated each passenger’s pass. Riders without the correct transfer were guided on how to purchase the right ticket or use the CATS app, instead of being removed from the train.
