Nationals MP Michael McCormack has called the ongoing scandal surrounding Senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price’s comments about Indian migrants a “distraction”.

Senator Price has been criticised by the media and members of her own party after she suggested that the Labor Party "likes to allow those (people) in … who ultimately vote for them".

The Indigenous Senator made the comments on the ABC’s Afternoon Briefing on Wednesday and has stood her ground in the face of the backlash.

Speaking to Sky News on Wednesday, Mr McCormack said Ms Price had walked back her “clumsy” and “unfortunate” comment, but insisted the issue was being overblown.
