If you think the name of Tom Ford’s new Private Blend fragrance, Oud Voyager, sounds vaguely sci-fi, you’re on the right track. Created by Dominique Ropion, a perfumer best known for masterminding Frédéric Malle’s Carnal Flower, the scent is being marketed as a “futuristic floral.” Intrigued? So were we.

What does Oud Voyager smell like?

The leading scent is oud, a rare resin notorious for its tendency to dominate a perfume and skew masculine. But in this fragrance, the other notes — fresh peony and green-floral geranium — are blended such that each is equally important, producing a genderless, seasonless scent. “It’s oud as you’ve never experienced it: radiant, sculptural, and dimensional,” says Ropion.
