Homeland Security is investigating a deadly crash that killed two people and landed one in jail.

The crash happened at the intersection of County Road 65 and Airport Road in Foley on April 13.

Nineteen-year-old Brandon Esquivel Palencia and 18-year-old Cesar Villatoro Chavez, both of Guatemala, were killed when the scooter they were riding was hit by a vehicle driven by 21-year-old Christopher Sanchez Mendoza.

Mendoza was indicted on April 27 by a Baldwin County grand jury for criminal negligent homicide, a Class A misdemeanor.

"Homeland Security is aware of this situation and are working through the legal processes involved with this case," Foley PD stated.

Mendoza was booked into the Baldwin County Jail on September 6 and was given a $10,000 bond.
