HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) -- Gov. Ned Lamont has directed flags to fly at half-staff in observance of the 9/11 anniversary.

The flags are to be lowered from sunrise to sunset in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the 2001United States terrorist attacks.

Flags will fly at half-staff at the state Capitol building and other state-operated buildings.

"On this day 24 years ago, one of the greatest tragedies in American history struck incredibly close to home, taking nearly 3,000 innocent lives, many of whom are from Connecticut,” Governor Lamont said in a written statement. “We will forever pay tribute to those who were taken from us all too soon and honor the heroism of those who gave their lives while rescuing their fellow man, including many first responders.
