PORTLAND, Maine — Eight years after Sunao “Tom” Yamada was found dead near Temple and Federal streets, Portland police are again asking the public for help solving his killing.

Yamada, who was 54 at the time of his death, was discovered in the early morning hours of Sept. 10, 2017. The state medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide.

Detectives said they have followed multiple leads over the past year, conducting dozens of interviews and reviewing hours of surveillance footage. Despite those efforts, the case remains unsolved.

“At the eighth anniversary of Mr. Yamada’s death, we are again seeking the community’s help,” Portland police said in a statement. “Even if you’ve provided information before, we want to hear from you again.”
