STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Suicide is currently a leading cause of death in New York City among those ages 15 to 34, according to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention , which invites the Staten Island community Sunday to walk to raise awareness of the availability of resources.

The Staten Island Out of the Darkness Community Walk, hosted by AFSP NYC chapter, will be held at noon in Wolfe’s Pond Park in Prince’s Bay on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Funds raised by the event will support AFSP research, education, advocacy, and loss support services.

In addition to raising awareness and funds to fight suicide, the walk will give those who attend a chance to connect with others and know they are not alone, whether they walk in memory or in support of a loved one -- or in honor of their own menta
