Regional councillors rejected comments made Tuesday by Premier Doug Ford, who suggested municipalities put the brakes on speed cameras, which he referred to as a cash grab .
Money from tickets issued under the municipal speed camera program in Waterloo Region goes into a reserve for road safety initiatives, councillors noted, some of which will be rolled out as early as next year.
“If, as some people with glee are suggesting, the premier may cancel this program, which I think is very, very disappointing and discouraging, we wouldn’t have this reserve,” noted Coun. Jim Erb.
