A former Kitchener elementary school principal convicted of sex crimes against two students has been sent to prison for 33 months.
Justice Frances Brennan also put Rodney Eckert, 60, on the sex offender registry for 20 years.
“I agree with the Crown that this case represents an egregious breach of trust,” Brennan said Wednesday in handing out the sentence.
“Mr. Eckert blatantly violated his obligations as the school principal and the trust that his students, their parents and the community at large placed in him to safeguard his students.”
A penitentiary sentence “is absolutely required” to deter and denounce the crimes, the judge said.
After a trial, Eckert was found guilty of two counts of sexual interference and one count of invitation to sexual touching.
