A Madison Heights man is headed to prison for up to 20 years for his role in a car theft ring and related crimes.

David Elliott, 37, was sentenced Sept. 9 for 32 crimes in two cases which he pleaded no contest to in Oakland County Circuit Court. A no contest plea is not an admission of guilt but is treated as such for sentencing purposes. It can also offer some liability protection in civil cases.

Judge Kwame Rowe handed down the sentences.

According to the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, in 2023 Elliott and codefendants stole 16 automobiles, tried to steal seven others, and stole a firearm. Elliott was arrested on Sept. 25, 2023 while trying to steal a vehicle from the Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital parking lot.
