Calling all mocktail drinkers.
Carnival Cruise Line added a new nonalcoholic beverage package in early September, covering a wide range of drinks from Coca-Cola products to zero-proof cocktails.
“Our guests were the motivation behind adding Cheers! Zero Proof,” Zachary Sulkes, Carnival’s AVP of beverage operations, told USA TODAY. “They told us they wanted more choice, and we listened.”
Guests can get the same “variety and convenience” from the new package as the regular Cheers! package – just without alcohol. “It’s all about making sure everyone onboard can feel part of the experience,” he said in an email.
It also offers an alternative to the relatively limited Bottomless Bubbles tier. Here’s what to know.
Why did Carnival add a nonalcoholic drink package?
The cruise line has seen an uptick in demand for zero-proof cocktails and other nonalcoholic drinks accelerate “within the past few months” – including soda since the line reintroduced Coca-Cola products this summer – according to Sulkes.
The zero-proof market has also evolved.
“The non-alcoholic space itself has become more creative with better flavors, better ingredients and a real craft element,” he said. “We’ve responded by expanding our menus and introducing premium zero-proof options fleetwide, and now with this drink package, guests can enjoy a full premium experience at a great value.”
What does Carnival’s nonalcoholic drink package include?
The Cheers! Zero Proof package includes zero-proof cocktails, alcohol-free sparkling wine and beer, sodas, juices, still and sparkling bottled water, specialty coffees, milkshakes and more.
By contrast, the Bottomless Bubbles package includes just sodas and juices. For USA TODAY's full cruise drink package guide, click here.
How much does Carnival’s nonalcoholic drink package cost?
Cheers! Zero Proof starts at $29.99 per guest, per day, and purchases apply to the whole cruise, according to Carnival’s website. The package falls in between Bottomless Bubbles, which starts at $6.95 for kids and $9.50 for adults, and Cheers!, starting at $69.95.
