CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Almost four years after Charlotte leaders launched an unprecedented initiative to help reverse longstanding racial inequities, records show the city of Charlotte has spent just a third of the public dollars dedicated to its portion of the effort.

In 2021 , Mayor Vi Lyles sparked new hope that a $250 million public-private partnership, the Mayor's Racial Equity Initiative , would right generational wrongs. While a large amount of private money is helping fund the initiative's multiple focus areas, the largest combined investment is designated for improving six parts of Charlotte, considered Corridors of Opportunity .
