The first week of school may have been more stressful for motorists than students.

Waterloo Regional Police, from Sept. 3 to 5, dedicated 20.75 hours to traffic enforcement near schools in the region and ended up handing out 28 charges and four warnings.

Police said 17 of those charges were for speeding, as well as two charges for a hand-held communications device, one fail to obey a stop signal, one no seatbelt charge and seven other charges under the Highway Traffic Act. The four warnings were also for Highway Traffic Act offences.
