A St. Paul police officer whose wife is a director of Twin Cities law enforcement nonprofit Backing the Blue Line died this past week.

The death of St. Paul K-9 officer Eric McArthur, 45, was described as "unexpected" by St. Paul Police Department, which said he spent nine years working for the city, the last four of which were alongside his K-9 partner, Finn.

McArthur died on Sep. 5 after going into cardiac arrest at his home, an online fundraiser states.

He is survived by his wife, Shanna McArthur, who as a director of Backing the Blue Line was responsible for providing and delivering blue roses at the funerals and memorials for fallen law enforcement officers, and their two children.
