Some services at several University of Minnesota campuses have been impacted as hundreds of unionized workers stage a strike for better wages.

More than 1,400 custodial, maintenance, food service and sanitation workers represented by Teamsters Local 320 started striking this week. The strike took effect Monday at the Crookston and Morris campuses and Tuesday at the Duluth and Twin Cities campuses.

The University of Minnesota and the Teamsters have been negotiating a new contract since March.

Last week, the union rejected the university's final offer that included a 3% wage increase over the next year, in favor of a 3.5% increase to align with other U of M union contracts.
