Kiko weakened to a remnant low overnight well north of Hawaii, the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said this morning.
At 5 a.m., the storm system had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph and was moving west at 12 mph about 110 miles north of Honolulu, the CPHC said in its last advisory for Kiko.
Kiko was a major Category 4 hurricane late last week and Saturday when it entered the Central Pacific on a track toward Hawaii.
It started passing north of Hawaii this week as a weakening tropical storm, only bringing large waves to eastern shores and high humidity statewide.
“Swells generated by Kiko are diminishing today, as are the threats of high surf and rip currents,” CPHC forecasters said. High surf advisories and warnings for the islands have expired.
