The Hawaii Department of Health has fined Manuela Malasadas $2,000 for unlawfully removing a red placard last month.

The state Food Safety Branch said Manuela Malasadas, at 56-565 Kamehameha Highway in Kahuku, was issued a red placard and shut down on July 10 after inspectors found no running water for required hand-washing, along with other violations.

While the establishment eventually received a green placard after a follow-up inspection on July 28, with all violations resolved, an inspector had noticed weeks earlier that the placard had been removed and was no longer posted on site.

DOH subsequently issued the business a notice of violation and order.
