A Texas couple is expecting a baby girl, the family's first in over 100 years

"It is really an honor," Michael Sherman tells PEOPLE.

"We didn't think it was possible," adds wife Joacquia, "so I mean, it's just a shock to everybody"

A couple in Texas is expecting a baby girl — and for the family, it's news that's been over a century in the making.

When Michael Sherman, a 32-year-old lieutenant with the Montgomery Fire Department, and his wife Joacquia — already parents to 5-year-old son Mekhai — sliced open a piece of cake at their "gender reveal" party, he was shocked to find that it was filled with pink frosting.

According to ABC affiliate KTRK and Fox station KRIV , no one in the Sherman family has given birth to a girl in 108 years.
