California Gov. Gavin Newsom on Wednesday condemned the shooting of Charlie Kirk, the co-founder of conservative Turning Point USA, as "reprehensible" and "vile."
“The attack on Charlie Kirk is disgusting, vile, and reprehensible. In the United States of America, we must reject political violence in EVERY form,” Newsom wrote on X.
Newsom notably welcomed Kirk to the inaugural episode of his podcast launched earlier this year as the Democratic leader sought to find common ground with conservative figures.
Kirk’s condition was not immediately clear. The Utah-based Deseret News reported that an alert from Utah Valley University, where Kirk was speaking to a crowd, said a suspect was in custody.
