Iowa political leaders are offering their prayers for conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who was shot Sept. 10 while speaking at a college campus in Utah.

Kirk, 31, was speaking at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, when he was shot in the neck during a question-and-answer session with students. The university said a suspect has been taken into custody.

President Donald Trump issued a statement on Truth Social following reports of the shooting. "We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!" Trump said.

Kirk, who founded the conservative group Turning Point USA, has spoken in Iowa in the past, including a visit to the University of Iowa's campus in 2019.

Iowa politicians are also offering their prayers to Kirk and his family.
