A body was discovered in an Iowa City park.

Police were called to the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area on the city's south side shortly before noon on Wednesday, Sept. 10, after reports of a body in Sand Lake, which sits near the park's lodge.

First responders removed the body from the lake and determined the individual was dead, according to a release.

The name of the individual has not yet been released.

Police are investigating the incident as an "unattended death," which typically means a person died with nobody present. The Johnson County Attorney's Office and Medical Examiner's Office are assisting in the investigation.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Iowa City police Det. Alex Stricker at astricker@iowa-city.org or 319-356-5456.
