NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - A volunteer firefighter died as a result of a crash in western Nebraska Tuesday.

According to the Scottsbluff Police Department, Josh Span, 36, was killed early Tuesday following a crash with a semi-truck.

Police said Span died after his vehicle collided with a semi-truck at an intersection in the northern part of town.

Officers were dispatched just before 6 a.m. and determined a 1995 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer stopped in the eastbound right lane on Highway 26 at a red light. When the light turned green, the semi began moving through the intersection, and an eastbound 2000 red Oldsmobile Bravada in the same lane struck the rear of the trailer, according to police.

Span, the driver of the Bravada, died at the scene.
