SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – September 10 marks the statistical peak of hurricane season in the Atlantic and as of today, things are looking relatively calm for now.
Historically, this date represents the height of tropical activity, with about 60% of hurricane activity still possible after the peak. While the season is far from over, it’s notable how quiet things have been in recent weeks.
The last named storm, Tropical Storm Fernand, formed a little over two weeks ago and did not impact the Coastal Empire or the Lowcountry. Looking ahead, there is, as of 2pm today, a low (20%) chance of development for a tropical wave that came off of West Africa. We'll continue to keep an eye.
